7 hurt, 50 houses vandalised in AL factional clash in Magura

At least seven people have been injured and over 50 houses were vandalised in a clash between two factions of Awami League (AL) in Sreepur upazila of Magura district.

The identities of the injured could not be known immediately, said Shukdev Roy, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.

According to locals, Upazila Joint General Secretary Kazi Tariqul Islam and Organizational Secretary of Upazila Awami League Mostasim Billah Sangram had long been at loggerheads in the area. 

On Sunday night, some miscreants burnt down two houses and vandalised more than fifty houses in Khoddarhua village of Srikol Union.  On Monday morning, both the groups blamed each other for the incident and engaged in an altercation. 

At one stage, both the groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving 7 people injured, said witnesses.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have so far arrested 15 people in this connection, the OC said.
